Schaffer appointed president of Bavaria. Friedrich Schaffer (left) of Munich is presented with a letter of appointment as temporary Minister-President of Bavaria by Colonel Charles Keegan of the U.S. Regional Military Government. Schaffer was formerly head of the Bavarian Ministry of State for Finance. In 1933, he was dismissed by the Nazis and imprisoned for a short time. In 1944, he was arrested again and sent to the Dachau concentration camp for six weeks.
