U.S. President Ruman confers Medals of Honor on 28 Army men. U.S. President Harry S. Truman (center), fastens the ribben of the Congressional Medal o f Honour arround the neck of Captain Bobbie E. Brown of the southern state of Georgia on August 23, 1945, while 27 other war heroes (some visible in upper left) who also received the award, look on. Many of the men were badly wounded. The ceremony was held in a lobby outside the East Room of the White House, Executive Mansion in Washington, the U.S. capital. Before a group of mililtary officers and civilians, including the families of the honoured soldiers, President Truman placed the nation's highest award around the neck of each of the officers and men after citations for their deeds of heroism were read by Major General Edward F. Witsell, acting Adjutant General.
