Admiraal Keisuke Okada, premier van Japan, vermoord (militaire revolte). 26-2-1936. Admiral Keisuke Okada, Japanese Premier, is one of the three leading statesmen assassinated by military mutineers who have seized strategic points in Tokyo. The coup was engineered by soldiers of the Third Regiment of the First Division who led by a captain Nonak, broke ranks while on the way to the station to entrain for Manchukuo. Riots and incendiarism broke out in the city and a partial form of martial law has been established. Other Japanese troops have been ordered to quell the insurrection. NI 1730 Okada (1862-1952), Japanese statesman and admiral. He was (1927-1929, 1932-1934) minister of the navy before serving (1934-1936) as premier. He resigned the premiership after the abortive military coup of Feb., 1936, in which he narrowly escaped assassination. At the close of World War II, he was a key figure in pressing for a compromise peace.
