In Kampong Makassar there were about 700 children. The women internees sacrificed everything in an effort to make conditions happier for the children. These women are putting their washing, such as it is, out to dry. Their heas were shaven by the Japanese and they were thrown into prison for three days without a scrape of food for asking for more bread for their children. NI 6110
