Martial Law in Canton. Martial law is in force at Canton, the great commercial capital of South China, following anti Japanese rioting by students. Troops are guarding schools and the Sun Yat Sen University. The Britisch naval authorities, through the Britisch gun boats in the Pearl River, are keeping a close watch on the situation. Reassuring reports came from wireless this morning from the gunboats. They state that the foreign quarters of Canton and the large British community are relatively safe.
