Zilveren armband gemaakt van dubbeltjes (10 cent) met beeltenis van Koningin Wilhelmina. Als teken van verzet tegen de bezetter en uit loyaliteit naar het Koningshuis. Afkomstig van Evan Jones (1920 - 2000) He was born in Pentre in the Rhondda Valley, South Wales, in 1920. He started working in Lloyds Bank in Bristol in 1938 and around that time he joined the Territoria! Army (Reserves). He initially joined the Gloucestershire Regiment which then became a Searchlight unit of the Royal Artillery after WW2 started. He spend the first years of the war in S. E England operating searchlights defending London during the Battle of Britain in 1940. The Royal Artillery Searchlight Regiment comprising 1 st 2nd & ]til Searchlight Batteries moved to Holland in January 1945 in defence of the Scheldt Estuary & Antwerp. The 1 st & 2nd Batteries were in Walcheren and South Beveland From 19 January-18 May 1945 Evan Jones was billeted with the Wiskerke family at Oostweg B 16, Krabbendijke. After telling his mother Anges Jones MBE about the local population starving, she organised her local Woman's Voluntary Service group who arranged tor food parcels to be sent to the residents of Krabbendijke. In May 1945 Evan moved to Antwerp. In June 1945 he moved on with his unit trom the area and into Germany itself. Letters between the two families continued into the 1950s. After the war he went back to working for Lloyds Bank in South Wales until he retired in 1980. He married Ruth Garland in 1952 and they adopted a son in 1956. He spent his retirement pursuing his hobbies of doing voluntary work for the Cancer Campaign as their local treasurer, gardening & family history research. He died in August 2000 at the age of 80. He is buried with Ruth in the Old Parish Church in Llandrindod Wells in Mid Wales.
