Marion C. was born in Berlin, Germany in 1936. She describes her paternal family. She describes how her family store was destroyed during Kristallnacht. She recalls how her parents had to do forced labour in the city. She describes how her mother switched their identity cards with a friend. She describes their escape across the Dutch border. She recalls being separated from her mother and going into hiding. She describes being spotted by police and sent to a crèche were children were held for deportation. She describes her escape with the help of the Amsterdam underground. She describes going into hiding again on a farm with her foster family. She recalls an incident of being identified by a traveling salesman who was a Nazi informant. Marion describes living on a Roma caravan near the end of the war. She describes liberation by Canadian troops. She explains her mother’s story living in hiding in Amsterdam and describes their reunion. She describes immigrating to Seattle in 1948.
