La Grande rafle du Vel d'Hiv. (16 juillet 1942)
Describes the roundup in Paris on 16-17 July 1942, mainly based on survivors' testimonies. 27,388 foreign Jews were to be arrested in Paris according to the card-index prepared by French authorities. During this "Action", executed by 9,000 French policemen, 12,884 Jews were arrested (among them 4,051 children) and brought to the Vel d'Hiv stadium. Describes the conditions of existence in the Vel d'Hiv and the subsequent transport of the Jews to transit camps and later to Auschwitz. Relates, also, to roundups in other regions of France. Underlines the responsibility of the French authorities for the organization of the roundups and for the decision to deport the children. Illustrated cover. 271 pages plates 24 cm.
