Témoignage en résistance
A study of literary works and films dealing with the Holocaust. Distinguishes between four "testimonial configurations": transparent realistic writing (e.g. by Vasilii Grossman and David Rousset); transcendental writing which transposes reality onto a symbolic scene (e.g. André Schwartz-Bart's "Le dernier des justes" and Roberto Benigni's "La vita è bella"); "criticial configuration", which engages in emptiness and loss (e.g. by Imre Kertész, Robert Antelme, and Claude Lanzmann); and "pathetic", emotional writing, which twists the story in order to express extreme violence. All of these "configurations" comprise ways of resisting attempts to destroy man and his culture. Includes bibliographical references (pages 393-414) and index. 419 pages ; 22 cm.
