Deutsche im Zweiten Weltkrieg : Zeitzeugen sprechen
Presents the reminiscences of 161 Germans on the Nazi period and the Second World War. The chapters "Juden raus!" (p. 91-118) for the prewar period, and "Endlösung" (p. 393-455) for the war period, relate experiences of persecution of Jews and half-Jews in everyday life and in concentration camps. Incidents showing attitudes to Jews are scattered throughout the book. Includes accounts by several Germans who heard of the mass murder of Jews in chance conversations, and the story of Gertrud Staewen, member of an underground group of the Confessing Church in Berlin which helped Jews to hide or escape.
