Traces the story of 44 Jewish children hidden in Izieu up to 1944 when they were deported to Auschwitz through Drancy. Recalls that it was the initiative of Pierre Laval of the Vichy government to deport the children under 16 years of age. Describes the activities of Sabine Zlatin, of Polish-Jewish origin, who rescued these children from various camps and hid them in Izieu. In April 1944 the children were discovered during a roundup organized by Klaus Barbie. Includes bibliographical references. 169 pages, 8 unnumbered pages of plates : illustrations ; 22 cm.
