Le livre de la mémoire : au-delà de l'enfer
Pt. 1 (pp. 17-373), "La mémoire", contains the text of the author's memoir, published as "Au-delà de l'enfer" (Paris: Garamont, 1987). Pt. 2 (pp. 375-421), "Au-delà de l'enfer", contains an account of the author's life after 1945, including personal reflections on Auschwitz and a visit to Auschwitz in 1988. Pt. 3 (pp. 423-457), "Destins croisés", recounts three encounters which relate to the Shoah: the first with dancer and choreographer René Blum, whom he met in Drancy in August 1942 (he did not survive); the second with the fiancé of Madeleine Lévy (Alfred Dreyfus' granddaughter), in Warsaw in 1943 (both of them did not survive); the third with Béla Harap after the war. Harap discusses the participation in the Warsaw uprising in 1944 of Hungarian Jews who had been sent from Auschwitz to clean up the rubble in the former ghetto area. Includes facsimiles of documents (pp. 465-523). [Ed. augm.]. 522 pages : illustrations ; 24 cm
