Die zweite Etappe ist der Tod : NS-Ausrottungspolitik gegen die polnischen Juden, gesehen mit den Augen der Opfer : ein historischer Essay und ausgewählte Dokumente aus dem Ringelblum-Archiv 1941-1943
Published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Warsaw ghetto revolt. Pt. 1 (pp. 7-111) contains an essay discussing the Nazis' policy of indirect annihilation (persecution, deprivation, and concentration in ghettos) and direct annihilation in the extermination camps. Focuses, as an example, on the conditions in the Warsaw ghetto, where 96,000 persons died of starvation and epidemics. Describes life in the Warsaw ghetto, the work on the Ringelblum archives, the first roundups and deportations, the armed uprising and its aftermath. Pt. 2 (pp. 113-259) contains the texts of 26 documents and eyewitness accounts from the Ringelblum archives. The archives' co-workers were conscious of their role as witnesses. Besides collecting posters and articles from the press, they wrote chronicles and carried out systematic investigations. They considered their activities as an integral part of resistance against the Nazis. 1. Aufl. 278 pages : illustrations, facsimile, portraits ; 23 cm.
