Woss ich hob durchgelebt = Was ich durchgemacht habe : Brief einer Jüdin aus der Bukowina verfasst in Transnistrien 1943
Presents a letter written by Schächter (b. 1911 in Bukovina) in 1943 to her brothers in America, when she was interned in Murafa, a ghetto in Transnistria. Pp. 22-107 contain the original Yiddish text (in Latin script) and a German translation. Ca. 100,000 Jews from Bukovina and Bessarabia were relocated to 100 ghettos in Transnistria by the Romanian government from summer 1941. Schaechter describes her flight, together with her father, stepmother, and sister, from their native town of Czudyn (now Mezhyrichchia) to Storozhynets, on 1 July 1941, during a battle between the Russians and Romanians. Mentions the cruelty of the Romanian soldiers towards the Jews; they committed massacres in Czudyn and other places. Schaechter was an eyewitness to the rape of a friend by a Romanian soldier. Describes the deportation to Murafa in 1941. Many of the Jews in Transnistria died of starvation and illness; those remaining were liberated by the Soviet army in spring 1944. After the war Schächter emigrated to Canada. 1. Aufl. 133 pages : illustrations ; 21 cm
