Discusses forced labor of the Jewish population in all German-occupied countries, beyond the system of concentration camps, during World War II. Before the war 20,000 Jews worked at forced labor under discriminatory conditions. After the "Kristallnacht" pogrom, segregated forced labor was considered part of a new orientation of Nazi anti-Jewish policy. In summer 1941 more than 50,000 Jews were engaged in forced labor. Between 1941-43 the forced labor was carried out in connection with the ghetto and concentration camp systems. Characterizes segregated forced labor as one of the most important elements of the persecution of the Jews, from 1938 until the deportations.
