Fetisch Holocaust : die Judenvernichtung, verdrängt und vermarktet
Examines the emotional factors involved in the debate taking place in Germany on the annihilation of the Jews. Claims that although information on the mass murders was available to German society at the time, wide sections of the population were not able to cope with it emotionally and grasp the extent of the crime. Deals with the Goldhagen debate; despite the massive criticism of his book (condemning it as unscientific, superficial, inexact), it is precisely this emotional approach to the Holocaust which enables it to reach the German postwar generation. Goldhagen succeeded in clearing away the haze of the last 50 years, enabling people to feel and enter into the event. Includes bibliographical references (pages 285-287). 286, [1] pages ; 21 cm
