Nationaler Antisemitismus : Wissenssoziologie einer Weltanschauung

2001

Contends that nationalism is based on self-definition of the in-group or nation in contrast to other nations; antisemitic nationalism is based on contrast between one's own and other "normal" nations to a "non-nation", the Jews. Delineates 18 rules describing the nature of these contrasts and analyzes the semantic and logical structure of six antisemitic texts: Treitschke's "Unsere Aussichten" as an example of post-liberal antisemitism; Stöcker's first antisemitic speech (1879) as representative of Christian-Social antisemitism; a passage from Drumont's "La France juive"; Hitler's speech of 13 August 1920, a systematic exposition of Nazi antisemitism; the prosecutor's closing speech at the Slánský trial, as an example of Marxist-Leninist "anti-Zionism"; and an article published in the Austrian "Neue Kronenzeitung" on 15 March 1986, shortly after the beginning of the Waldheim affair. Demonstrates the recurrence of the same rules and structures in each of the texts, which, if taken to their logical conclusions, would require the removal of the Jews from the nation and ultimately from the world, but only Hitler presents an actual plan to this end. In the communist version, antisemitism is camouflaged as anti-Zionism, and in postwar Austrian antisemitism some of the rules remain latent because of taboos in public discourse. 1.
