Des camps dans Paris : Austerlitz, Lévitan, Bassano, juillet 1943-août 1944
Traces the history of three internment camps, established between 1943-44 in Paris by Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg for the processing of booty from homes of deported Jews as part of the Möbelaktion. Run by Dienststelle Westen, the camps of Austerlitz, Lévitan, and Bassano supplied the Germans with slave labor and served as Drancy's depot for inmates who were not eligible for deportation: Jews married to Aryans, half-Jews, and spouses of POWs. 800 prisoners passed through the camps, which were located in furniture warehouses and in a hotel in the heart of Paris. Based on testimonies by survivors, describes their daily routine in sorting, classifying, repairing and wrapping the contents of 38,000 Jewish homes in Paris (and an unspecified number in the rest of France) for shipment to Germany. also discusses the silence of French historiography on the existence of the camps. Includes bibliographical references (pages 307-317). 323 pages : illustrations ; 24 cm.
