Sowjetische Partisanen in Weissrussland : Innenansichten aus dem Gebiet Baranovic̆i 1941-1944 : eine Dokumentation
A collection of Soviet partisan documents pertaining to the partisan warfare in 1941-44 in the prewar Baranovichi region in western Belarus. Ch. 4 (pp. 183-220), "Jüdische Partisanen", deals with Jewish partisans. Jews were the third greatest ethnic group among the Soviet partisans in the Baranovichi region. The two greatest Jewish partisan units of World War II - those headed by Bielski brothers and by Zorin - were formed in this region. Jewish members of the partisan movement, as well as peaceful Jews who fled to the forests in order to survive the Nazi genocide, encountered a measure of antisemitism on the part of Soviet non-Jewish partisans. Some conflicts between partisans and Jews ended with the murder of the latter. Pp. 183-189 contain an introduction to partisan-Jewish relations in the area, as well as to Jewish participation in Soviet partisan warfare; pp. 190-220 contain documents, mostly on the Bielskis' unit. Includes bibliographical references and indexes. 271 pages : maps ; 24 cm.
