Im Schatten der Sterne : eine jüdische Widerstandsgruppe
Examines the activities of the Baum resistance group and relates the fate of some of its members, based on archival material and interviews with friends and relatives. The communist-oriented group, led by Herbert Baum, was formed mainly by young Jews who, from 1940, were forced to work at the Siemens firm in Berlin. Gradually the activities of the group turned into resistance against the Nazis. In May 1942 they set fire to a stand at a Nazi anti-Soviet exhibition. After being caught, nine of them were sentenced to death and executed on 18 August 1942. According to Gestapo files, Herbert Baum committed suicide. Three of the accused were sentenced to penal servitude. Focuses on the life and fate of one of the members, Edith Fraenkel (b. 1922). She was arrested, imprisoned in January 1943 in Cottbus, deported in October to Theresienstadt, and in October 1944 to Auschwitz, where she perished. Fraenkel was engaged to Robert Mohn, who was interviewed and is mentioned extensively in this book. Their infant son, Uri, died in January 1942. 1. Aufl. 478 pages : illustrations ; 22 cm
