"Das Volk ist ein Trost" : Deutsche und Juden 1933-1945 im Urteil der jüdischen Zeitzeugen
Quotes copiously from testimonies of Jews who lived in Germany during part or all of the Nazi period and experienced sympathy or practical help from Germans. Many of these Jews attested that the great majority of ordinary Germans were not antisemitic and were opposed to the persecution of the Jews. According to their testimonies, antisemitism was limited mostly to the fanatical Nazis or to children and youth who had undergone indoctrination early in life. Few Germans, including Jews, knew about the extermination camps. Aid to Jews, or open opposition to acts of persecution, required extraordinary courage. Includes bibliographical references (pages 343-361) and indexes. 381 pages : illustrations ; 25 cm
