Oral History and interviews
permission of the director of the IEJ is necessary to consult the documents. This fond contains interviews on audio tapes and their transcriptions, as well as notes taken by researchers of the institute during the interviews. These interviews were part of the project "Oral History of the Jews in Belgium" (Histoire orale des Juifs de Belgique). The interviews were mostly conducted by Daniel Dratwa et Bernard Suchecki, and reviewed by Willy Bok. The main themes of the interviews were oriented towards the personal lives of the interviewees, their family, their home country, their profession, education, their relation to Judaism and their level of religiosity, their migratory journey, their arrival in Belgium, Belgian Jewish life, and their political activities if applicable. The interviewees have various political tendencies (Zionists, communists, ...), have different educational levels (secondary, higher education, ...). We can also distinguish some men and women who lived in different cities (Brussels, Antwerp, Charleroi, Liège....). The interviews were conducted in topical series: l'AJB, the German immigrants, Jewish immigration during the interwar period. This fond holds older interviews of which Albert Blum is an exemple of, interviewed by Willy Bok in 1968 or another one from 1972 centering around the rescue of Jewish children. The fond also holds copies of the thirteen interviews by Rivka Banitt (1963-1973), as part of the project "OHD 27" of the Oral History Divion, Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
