Contact Kazerne Dossin Documentation Centre: archives@kazernedossin.eu Bella Swiatlowski was born in Forest, Brussels, on 26 April 1938 as the daughter of leather worker Berek Swiatlowski (b. 22/02/1905 in Plawno, Poland) and his wife Pesa Koronczyk (b. 14/01/1913 in Warsaw, Poland). Bella’s parents were arrested on 12 September 1942 at the Brussels-Midi train station. Bella was subsequently rescued by neighbours and placed in hiding in Anderlecht. Neither Berek Swiatlowski nor Pesa Koronczyk survived deportation from the Dossin barracks to Auschwitz-Birkenau via Transport X on 15 September 1942. After the liberation, Bella Swiatlowski was returned to the care of her paternal uncle Abram Swiatlowski (b. 10/01/1912 in Gidle, Poland) whom became her guardian. Bella Swiatlowski married and had children. Today, Bella Swiatlowski is a leading member of L'Association pour la Mémoire de la Shoah (AMS), a Belgian commemoration organisation that helps families who want to lay Stolpersteine to commemorate their lost loved ones.
