Bequest Walter Hotz
Walter Hotz (1917-1974) was born in 1917. He studied law and worked as a court official (Amtsgerichtsrat). He was an associate judge at the First Frankfurt Auschwitz trial. He died in 1974. The bequest contains documents originating from Hotz's time as a judge at the Landgericht Frankfurt (Main). The records mainly regard his participation at the proceedings against Mulka and others (4 Ks 2/63). As associate judge, he was entrusted with the preparation, the conduct and the protocolling of the local inspection of Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp in December 1964. The bequest contains after description, demetallization and filing eight archival units with a total extent of 0.3 running meters. During the description in February and March 2021, the processor Sophia Steinmetz created an entirely new order. The holding is now structured in two sections. The section "inspection of Auschwitz concentration camp" ("Augenscheinseinnahme des KZ Auschwitz") contains records regarding the preparation and conduct of the local inspection of Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II-Birkenau. It took place between December, 14 and 16 1964. Beyond that, it includes documents regarding the cooperation with Polish authorities and regarding witness questionings. The section "proceedings against Mulka and others" ("Verfahren gegen Mulka u.a.") covers witness subpoenas, as well as the verdicts of the proceedings against Mulka and others.
