The Finnish Red Cross established its POW Office in 1939 to collect data concerning the POWs during the Winter War, and later during the Continuation War. The office was established on the ground of the Geneva Conventions on the treatment of POWs. All data concerning the extradited POWs can be found in *Saksaan luovutetut sotavangit* [POWs extradited to Germany] database. The database is available in the intranet of the National Archives of Finland. Its use requires permission. Data concerning POWs deaths are available in the online database [Prisoners-of-war deaths and people handed over in Finland](http://kronos.narc.fi/frontpage.html). The database is available in English but the search engine works only in Finnish. To look for the Jewish POWs, in the field “kansallisuus” [nationality] choose “juutalainen” [Jewish], and click on "hae" [search]. Card indexes and lists of POWs contain confidential information. Access to the information is free 50 years after the person’s death or, if the year of death is unknown, 100 years after the person’s birth. Otherwise, access requires permission (Act on the Openness of Government Activities, 621/1999, 24 §, subsection 1, paragraphs 24–32). For all inquiries concerning permission, contact arkisto@narc.fi. The archive contains records from the years 1939-1948. It includes journals, correspondence, death certificates, as well as card indexes and lists of POWs, which are the archive’s main material.
