Pavel Novak: copy personal papers

This collection comprises a school leaving certificate dated 1939, of Risa Elizabeth Novak, Pavel Novak's wife; a certificate from the Jewish Refugees Committee in London about her arrival from Austria in May 1939; and a certificate from a group of Austrian Trade Unionists in Great Britain, confirming the identity of her father and the fact that he was arrested for anti-fascist activities in 1934 and 1938. Pavel Novak was a former refugee from Czechoslovakia. Born in 1918, he spent the Second World War years in Great Britain during which time he lost his parents, sister and numerous family members, murdered in the Holocaust. Pavel returned to Czechoslovakia after the war with his wife, who was a refugee from Vienna, arriving in Great Britain on the Kindertransport. They lived there with their two children until the Russian invasion of 1968 then returned to Great Britain. Open
