Documentation of the Main Office for Educators and of the Reich Administration of the National Socialist Teachers League (Hauptamt fuer Erzieher/National-Sozialistische Lehrerbund-NSLB), Germany, 1932-1942

 Hauptamt fuer Erzieher was a department in the NSDAP National Leadership while the NSLB was an organization under Party auspices, but not officially part of it;

 In 1934, the Nazi authorities began to integrate all the teachers into the NSLB by, among others, disbanding the other teachers' organizations (including academic ones) and integrating them into the NSLB. By late 1935, approximately 95% of all the German teachers were included in the NSLB, and 97% of them a year later. In 1936, with the disbanding of the final teacher's organization, The German and Prussian Philologists Association (Deutschen und Preussischen Philologenverbandes) and its integration into the NSLB, the NSLB had a total monopoly over the organizing and training of all the educators, including academic teachers.

 In April 1936, the Reich Minister of Education published an ordinance transferring the responsibility for all teacher training in Germany to the NSLB and its head, Gauleiter Waechtler;

 On 29 September 1936, the head of the NSLB published an ordinance determining that the Main Office for Educators in the national leadership of the NSDAP has sole responsibility for the political and ideological training of German educators, while the NSLB is responsible for other areas in the organization and for the training of teachers;

 The material includes, among others, correspondence of Gau Ausland and the NSLB with representatives in various countries around the world; memoranda and drafts on many topics, including the training of teachers, vocational schools and cultural affairs; correspondence of the NSLB administration with the various departments, the regional administrations, members of the organization and general correspondence; activity reports of the local administrations and of the departments in the organization; articles in the "NS Lehrerzeitung" newspaper; political assessments regarding educators; correspondence and pamphlets regarding the homeland (Heimat), ethnicity (Volkstum) and the like; correspondence with authors, book publishers and printing houses regarding publications; integration of professional associations into the NSLB (philologists organizations, dance teachers); ideological education; circulars of the organization; youth newspapers; opinion regarding books and publications (including reviews of antisemitic publications); publications of the organization (many of them dealing with Jews and matters regarding race); education of kindergarten children and professional training of kindergarten teachers (including on matters of race).
