 Binnenlands Bestuur - Ministry of the Interior of the Netherlands, Local Authorities Department, was responsible for the administration of matters related to the regions, municipalities, and needy persons, Armwezen. The local Police, firefighters and air defense forces were subordinate to it and were transferred to the responsibility of the Ministry of Justice during the Nazi occupation period. A general draft of the Dutch Army was declared in June 1939. Binnenlands Bestuur supervised the Bureau Afvoer Burgerbevolking - BAB, the Bureau for the Evacuation of Civilians. The BAB and the Centraal Bureau Verzorging Oorlogsslachtoffers - CBVO (Central Bureau for the Handling of War Victims) were merged in 1945. During the occupation period, the Germans established a confiscation department and a department for occupation damages in the Binnenlands Bestuur. After the war, the Binnenlands Bestuur supervised the abolition of the Nederlandse Arbeidsdienst NAD - Dutch labor service, and the purging of Nazi organizations from the government institutions in the Netherlands;
