Mestský národný výbor v Rožňave
The agenda of the City National Committee of Rožňava holds records of the city administration in the period between 1945 and 1990. A specific segment of the archival collections preserves archival materials related to the immediate post-WWII period when Holocaust survivors were returning from the concentration camps and were trying to get back their confiscated real estate and movable property. The collection contains many applications and requests of different types for the recovery of their taken property (apartment, house, furniture, shops, household, other movable property items, etc.). A specific segment of the archival collections contains different types of inventories of former Jewish properties prepared by the city administration. One might find here files concerning the appointment of national guardians for Jewish real estate too. The archival collection contains relevant documents also on the situation of the Jewish religious community and its real estate properties in the post-war years and later. The archival fond holds documents connected to the most important Jewish families in Rožňava, the Lissauers, the Roths, and many others. National committees were established on the territory of Slovakia during the Second World War based on the decree of the President of the Republic no. 18/1944 of December 4, 1944, and after WWII they replaced the existing municipal councils. The City National Committee of Rožňava was responsible for administrating Rožňava between 1945 and 1989. Its leadership was changed after May 1946 according to the result of the parliamentary elections. Members of the National committee had a wide range of competencies: the managing of the political, economic, and social life of the city, the confiscation of the property of "Germans, Hungarians, traitors and collaborators", the appointment of national administrations, the restoration and reconstruction of the national economy, tasks in the social and health spheres, the establishment of the National Security Corps, etc. Changes in the organization and activities of national committees occurred after the issuance of Constitutional Act No. 150/1948 Coll. (Constitution of May 9). It is possible to make copies in accordance with the research rules of the archive. Inventory is available in an electronic version on the computer of the researcher's room of the archives. Accessible
