Formation of the Secretariat of GPU-KGB USSR can be traced down since 1930. The detailed structure and functions of the Secretariat were defined by the order of the Minister of State Security of the Ukrainian SSR in August 26, 1952, No. 00271 "Announcement of the MGB stuff". Subsequently, the structure and functions of the unit did not changed until 1991. The documents were mainly generated within four periods: 1930-1941; 1941-1945; 1945-1954; 1964-1991 The documents of the period of the Second World War (1941-1945) contain: • resolutions and orders of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR; • directives and instructions by NKVD of the USSR on work issues; • directives and instructions by NKVD of the Ukrainian SSR on work issues; • correspondence by NKVD of the UkrSSR with organizations, authorities and administration of the UkrSSR on the activities of the state security agencies; • special reports sent by NKVD of the Ukrainian SSR and NKVD departments to the commanders, members of the military councils of the fronts and units; • reports, special reports, informations sent by NKVD of the Ukrainian SSR to organizations, authorities and administrations of the USSR; • special reports on the population mood in connection with beginning of the war; • operative reports by NKVD of the USSR for June - December 1942; • the reports of NKVD of the UkrSSR on the cleansing of the territory of the Ukrainian SSR liberated from the German invaders; • daily reports to authorities and administrations of the Ukrainian SSR on the operational status of the liberated territories of the USSR; • reports, special reports, operational reports on the actions of the UPA troops on the territory of the liberated regions of the Ukrainian SSR; • documents on the population resettlement from Western Ukrainian lands; • documents on the activities of the operational groups of NKVD of the UkrSSR in the liberated regions of the Ukrainian SSR; • acts of control-inspection teams of NKVD on control of operative-investigative work of district departments of NKVD of the Ukrainian SSR. Documents of the postwar period (1945-1955) contain: • resolutions and orders of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR - Council of Ministers of the USSR; • instructions and directives of NKGB-MGB-MVD-KGB at the Council of Ministers of the USSR on operational activities; • instructions and directives of NKGB-MGB-MVD-KGB at the Council of Ministers of the USSR on operational activities; • Protocols and transcripts of the meetings of the governing body of MGB-MVD-KGB at the Ministry of the UkrSSR on operational activities and directions of work; • special reports, reports, informations for organizations and bodies of the Ukrainian SSR on operational activities, state of industry, agriculture, transport; measures to combat "anti-Soviet elements", spies of intelligence of foreign states, search of state criminals; • a report on the cleansing of the territory of the Ukrainian SSR from the "enemy elements"; • personal correspondence of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the KGB of the UkrSSR with the authorities, the party leadership of the Communist Party of Ukraine; • directives, instructions of NKGB-MGB-MVD-KGB on combating OUN and UPA underground; • Protocols and transcripts of operational meetings of the governing body of MGB of the UkrSSR on combating OUN and UPA underground; • reports, special reports, informations to the authorities of the Ukrainian SSR on the struggle of MGB-MVD of the UkrSSR with OUN and UPA underground; • Operative monthly and decade reports on the struggle of MGB-MVD of the Ukrainian SSR in the western regions with OUN and UPA underground; • originals of leaflets, proclamations of OUN documents, obtained during the joint MGB-military and agent-combat operations in western regions of the Ukrainian SSR; • documents on the preparation, conduct and implementation of the decisions of the Joint Council of the Russian Orthodox Church and Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in 1946; • documents on investigation of the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR in March - July 1953 Documents of the 1960s-1991s contain: • plans of the KGB for a year (from 1954); • Protocols of the meetings of the KGB Board; • Materials of the general meeting of the governing bodies of the KGB, the USSR and other Soviet Republics (Kiev, 5-6 August 1971); • Proceedings of the meeting of KGB headship and the KGB regional departments (Kyiv, February 24-26, 1971); • Reports and correspondence of KGB departments on damage and human losses of the Ukrainian SSR during the German occupation of 1941-1944; • reporting, information and special messages to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine, to the authorities and headship of the Ukrainian SSR on operative and investigative work of the KGB bodies and subdivisions on the foreigners in Ukraine, the fight against dissidents, groups of Ukrainian nationalists in Ukraine, foreign centers of Ukrainian nationalists, the struggle against Zionist elements and Crimean Tatar autonomists; on extraordinary events in industry, agriculture, transport; on the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident; materials on preparation compromising measures by the KGB bodies against representatives of anti-Soviet organizations; • confiscated anti-Soviet materials; • information on events in Czechoslovakia in 1968, in Hungary in 1956, in Poland in the early 1980's; • originals and copied documents of foreign anti-Soviet centers and members of anti-Soviet organizations and factions in the Ukrainian SSR; • documents summing up the experience of operational and operational work of the KGB.
