German and Italian diplomats and German propagandists expelled from the US; Senators Robert Taft and Henrik Shipstead, America First Committee supporters

Expelled German diplomats arriving at LaGuardia airport prior to their departure from the United States. Close-up shots of the former German consul general in San Francisco, Captain Fritz Wiedemann, and Dr. Johannes Bacher, former German consul general in New York. The men smile and talk to the press [need to verify identities]. Dark shot of a crowd of journalists on the tarmac; baggage being unloaded from the plane. 01:40:34 Pier 61 in New York City. A. V. Yanelli, who was the Italian consul general at Johnstown, PA for thirty years, as he is expelled from the country. Crowds surround an older man, presumably Yanelli, to see him off. Taxis arrive at the pier; policemen and jounalists are present. According to the dope sheet, two of the men in the taxi are Dr. Manfred Zapp and Guenther Tonn of the Transocean News Service. This was a news service formed by Germany in 1915 to disseminate pro-German propaganda in the US. These two men and Transocean were prosecuted by the US Justice Department in 1941 for failing to register as foreign agents. The two are presumably being expelled from the United States as well. The Navy ship "West Point" which will take Yanelli to Lisbon, leaves the dock. More shots of crowds, journalists, a truck full of baggage arriving at the pier. 01:44:48 Senator Robert A. Taft of Ohio walks to his car. Taft was a conservative Republican and supporter of the America First Committee, an isolationist organization whose most prominent spokesperson was Charles Lindbergh. Taft buys a newspaper from a paper boy and gets into his car. 01:45:41 Senator Henrik Shipstead of Minnesota, also an America First Committee supporter, in his office, sitting at his desk and looking through a photographic book with another man. In a closer shot the book is shown to be about World War I. Shipstead grimaces as he studies the photos. 01:46:40 Shots of the photos in the book, showing starving children, the sinking of the Lusitania, and other World War I scenes. Exterior shots of the Washington headquarters of the America First Committee (there is no sign to indicate this).
