Queen's Day celebrations in Amsterdam

Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Robert Kan and his family escaped the Nazis on May 13, 1940 and emigrated to Queens, New York via the Dutch East Indies. He received a BA in Economics from Hofstra Univeristy and worked for thirty years for the US government at the Department of Commerce, the Atomic Energy Commission, the National Science Foundation, and the American Embassy in Tokyo. After retiring from the government, he became a Certified Financial Planner. He was a lifelong Boy Scout and accomplished philatelist. He was married for 58 years to Francisca Verdoner Kan and had three daughters, Jeanette, Susan, and Eleanor. Olympisch Stadion in Amsterdam. "JWB" painted on the field with a crown. A large group of women in white parade by. More parading follows including people on horseback and others carrying flags. 01:04:12 Rowing contest. Camera follows the boats. People running and bicycling along the banks of the canal/river. Shots of audience stands. 01:05:28 Dutch newspaper "Algemeen Handelsbland" with the date 16 June 1938. Focus on large picture on the paper's cover. Monument dedication ceremony (unknown). Draped monument before the ceremony, the arrival of dignitaries(?), and the dedication ceremony. 01:08:53 Shipping yard, launching of a ship. Decorations cover the ship's name on the hull. 01:11:01 Pan, stadium full of people. People in costume parade across the field. People arrive in carriages and on horseback, a large orchestra plays on the field (the conductor directs from a platform), and dancers perform. 01:13:30 Color. Dance performance. Parading past the stands in costumes and on floats.
