Eric Frisch collection

Collection of materials relating to Eric Frisch (donor's father) who was a torch runner in the 1936 Olympic Torch Run and was a coach of the Austrian women's track team at the 1936 Summer Olympic Games. Eric Frisch was a Jewish athlete in Austria and a well known and respected runner. He was asked to oversee the runners in the fourth stage of the torch relay through Austria, was the final runner of that group. He fled Europe in November 1938 and immigrated to the United States. Includes several newspaper articles: "Track Star Jesse Owens, U.S. Hero In Berlin Olympics, Dies of Cancer" by Bob Rubin, Herald Sports Writer; Washington Post article "Olympic Ideals Dead; Let’s Downgrade Games" by Henry Fairlie; "Jesse Owens: A Hero of American Ideals"; "The Moscow Olympics: '36 Revisited?" by Steve Jacobson; and Miami Herald article "Owens Remembered for Deeds for Blacks and Country," April 2, 1980.
