Mendel and Marta Miller family papers

Contains photographs, immigration documents, and identification certificates, related to the period when Mendel and Marta Miller lived in the Feldafing displaced persons camp, and their subsequent immigration to the United States. Also included correspondence relating to Marta Miller's restitution claims against the West German government from 1982. Mendel and Marta Miller met at the Feldafing DP camp in Germany in 1946, and subsequently married and immigrated to the United States. Mendel Miller (born 20 September 1896) was originally from Łódź, Poland, and prior to the war had been employed as a locksmith. He had been imprisoned at Buchenwald until his liberation in 1945. Marta Miller, nee Markovits (born 24 September 1922) was from Miskolc, Hungary. During the war, she was imprisoned at Auschwitz, and worked as a forced laborer in a number of locations. After liberation, she was in Hamburg, but soon resettled in the displaced persons camp at Feldafing. The Millers were married on 12 November 1946 at Feldafing, and immigrated to the United States in 1949, settling in Cleveland, Ohio.
