Black Watch, Canadian soldier, Robert Birkett op achterzijde foto: Robert Arnold Birkett - 21 years (photo taken ± 1946) born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1925. Joined The Black Watch in 1944. Took part in the liberatin of Holland with Canada's 1st Battalion in 1944-1945. .Participated in the liberation of Nijmegen, Arnhem and Groesbeek. Returned to Holland with his wife Kathleen in 1980 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Liberation. They s tayed with a Dutch family in groningen and were treated with great respect. henever forgot Hollland and the people there. When he very occasionally spoke of the war, it was always of Holland. Returned to Montreal after war, married and had 4 children. Passed away on February 1st 1990 of cancer. The cap accompanying this photograph this photograph is the dress cap of The Black Watch. My father was a brave soldier and a proud Canadian Cindy Birkett-Graham - July 2013
