The paradox of silence: Dutch lesbian in World War II
2001
This paper addresses the complex situation that lesbians faced during the occupation of the Netherlands in the second world war. It examines the ways in which the war was simultaneously oppressive and empowering for many lesbians and the methods by which women could firm subculres and resist the war. Finally, it concentrates on the complete silence surrounding this issue and the debate about reparations for gays and lesbians.
