' An `Underseas Warrior` Gets Off Some Rescue Work At Sea. Not all of the work of the Pacific Fleet's submarines is destructive. At this stage in the war against Japan, when Uncle Sam is sending his airmen over the enemy mainland in steady streams of power and might, the subs have a new job to do. They roam the hostile waters between U.S. held forward areas and the Japanese coast, and working with the greatest of skill, quietly snatch from the sea airmen who have been forced to bail out or ditch their planes, and return them to safety. Here, while a sub crew member tightens the rope that hitches the plane to the sub, other crewmen reach out to assist a PBY (Flying Boat) airmen over the side, from the wing of the plane. The PBY (Flying Boat) was damaged in attempting to rescue B-29 crewmen. '
