German civilians on trial for murder of American Flyers. Matthias Gierens, one of the three German civilians before a war crimes court in connection with the murder of an inidentified American flyer, is shown during the lunch period of the seconf day of the trial, June 2, 1945, at Ahrweiler, Germany. The court is composed of eight military officers appointed by Lieeutenant Leonard T. Gerow, Commander of the 15th U.S. Army. Gierens broke down during the second day and his attorney attemped to insanity.
