Soviet tanks enter Berlin. A column of Soviet tanks rolls into Berlin during the operations which proceded the Soviet capture of the German capital on May 2, 1945. The Russians entered Berlin on April 21, and, after battling the Germans through the streets and subways of the city, captured the German Reichstag on April 30. Finally, realizing the futility op opposing the Russians any further, 70.000 German troops laid down their arms in surrender, and Berlin, the largest city in Germany, fell.
