Soldier impressed into Nazi Army.
Soldier impressed into Nazi Army. This is one of the soldiers, captured with the Nazis by the Americans, who had been forced to fight for the Germans after they were taken prisoner in Russia. They did not understand a word of English, French or German. The Nazis with them said these men - Tartars, Mongolians, Russians - could not communicate with their fellow soldiers except through an interpreter. The group was taken as the American advance opened West of St. Lo, July 25, 1944, driving across Normandy into Brittany in the first 10 days of the offensive.
