Americans revoke German death sentence on Austrian couple.
Americans revoke German death sentence on Austrian couple. Albert and Agnes Kaltenagger, citizens of Salzburg, Austria, stand before Major Robert M. Woodward (right), president of the board of officers reviewing the cases of civilians found in German prisons in the sector of Austria occupied by the Americans. A German court had convicted them and sentenced them to death for the alleged theht of a small bundle of laundry and they were found in the Salzburg jail awaiting execution when American forces took the city May 4, 1945. The conviction was set aside by the Americans.
