American Military Government in Germany. Hans V.
American Military Government in Germany. Hans V. Vogler, a German notary public in Bayreuth, fills out a "denazification" form in the Public Safety Office as Private Ernest J. Holzer of New York, a clerk, looks on. The forms, revealing the activities of all public office holders, is used as a basis for purging the government of the pro-1933 Nazis and these who were ardent Nazis after the rise of Hitlerism in the Reich. Of bayreuth's 3,000 public office holders, 700 were ousted by the Military Governmnet as being injurious to the interests of the occupying forces, the Military Government and the future of Germany. Beside dismantling Nazi and typically Fascist agencies in Germany, the Military Government and agencies of the occupaying forces are acting to assure that these placed in civil administrative posts and other positions of influace and authority are not Nazis or Nazi sympathizers. Nazis who at liberty and considered gangerous to militairy security are interned or kept inder surveillance.
