Bastille Day rites for French patriot-priest killed by Nazi mine in Normandy.
14 juli 1944
Bastille Day rites for French patriot-priest killed by Nazi mine in Normandy. American, French and British flags fly at half staff outside St. Nicholas Church, Barfleur, where final rites are held for Abbe Jules Gaslonde, French patriot-priest killed by a Nazi land mine laid by the Germans in their retreat from the Normandy area. The Abbe, who once defied Nazi orders by hanging the Tricolor in his church, was killed while returning from administering last rites to three French civilians killed by another German mine.
