French foreign Minister and U.S. Ambassador open exhibit of American books in Paris. Ronald Freelander (standing), director for France of the United States International Book Association, reads opening address at the inauguration March 21, 1946 of an exposition of American books organized by the U.S.I.B.A. at the Cercle de la Librairie, 117 Bld. St.-Germain in Paris. Attending the opening were American Ambassador to France Jefferson Caffery and French Minister for Foreign Affairs Georges Bidault, second and thrid (left to right) who delivered addresses and former U.S. Ambassador to Belgium Hugh Gibson (second from right), a director of the U.S.I.B.A. On extreme right is Rene Marcadet, assistant to Freelander. More than 3000 American books published since the war and which had not previously reached Paris were exhibited, along with descriptive panels and pictures.
