FIRST BRITAIN TO RUSSIA SHUTTLE MISSION. Eight U.S. Air Force leaders of the first Allied fighter-bomber shuttle mission from Britain to Russia via Germany check their maps before taking off for the attack Juni 21, 1944. More than 1000 heavy bombers, escorted by P-51 Mustangs, attacked Berlin "in great strength" to open the new two-way aerial bombardment. The flyers took off from bases in Britain, unloosed their bombs over Germany and went on to Russia. Refuellled and reloaded in Russia, they will take off again, drop more bombs on German military installations and fly back home to their base in England.
