New. U.S. Victory ship demonstrate speed. The U.S. 10,500-ton Victory ship, Bluefield Victory, steams at top speed on a final trial spin off the U.S. West Coast. She will join the vast fleet of medrn cargo ships which in 31 months of American participation in the war had transported overseas the major part of 97,000,000 tonsof supplies and equipment for Allied figting forces. From Dec. 7, 1941 to Jan. 1, 1944, U.S. shipyards launched 3,736 cargo vessels. Between Jan.1 and Aug. 15, 1944 launchings included 69 Victory and 488 Liberty ships, 343 cargo vessels of miscellaneous types and 112 cargo carriers of special design.
