New support boats lay smoke screens. Surging through the water at high speed, two new U.S. LCS (laning craft, support) boats lay a smoke screen to cancel the movements of the landing barges in the background. The smoke is produced by a device carried in the storm and the vessels are also equipped to fire rockets. The boats are among a number of ingenious new craft recently developed to aid and protect Allied landing operations. The photo was mad duing tesst in 1943 and has just been released for publication, but the boats haven been used successfully in both the Pacific and Europe.
