Railroad through Iran helps speed U.S. war supplies to Russian front. To speed the flow of military supplies to Russia under the U.S. leand-lease program, American experts have taken over operation of the Persian State Railway, which crosses the mountains and deserts of Iran. Over this 1400-mile railroad, locomotives operated and serviced for the most part by Americans haul great quantities of guns, ammunition and other lend-lease supplies from Iranian parts on the Persian Gulf to Soviet military bases near the Caspian Sea. A line of Allied freighters lies at the docks at a supply port as war materials are unloaded for shipment by the Iranian railroad and by highway to Russia.
