U.S. generals inspect captured Los Negros Island. Three U.S. generals who directed amphibious operations which led to the capture of Los Negros in the Admiralty Islands, lead ashore a group of officers on a brief inspection tour of the former Japanese base. Left to right are: Lieuttenant General Walter C. Krueger, commander of the U.S. Sixth Army; Brigadier General William Chase of the U.S. First Cavalry Division, and Major General Innis P. Swift, commanding general of the division. Following their conquest of Los Negros, U.S. forces occupied other vital areas in the Admiralty group thus gaining control of strategically important shipping routes in the northern approach to the Bismarck Sea.
