American Artists report the War exhibit in London. Brigadier General Frank A. Allen, Jr., Chief, Public Relations Division, SHAEF, opens the exhibition "American Artists Report the War" at the National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, London, September 29, 1944. From left to right: Brigadier General Allen, Group Captain Lord Willoughby de Broke, who presided, and Sir Kenneth Clark, director of the National Gallery. Seventy oils, watercolors and drawings by men attached to the U.S. Army, Navy and Marine Corps, covering most phases of the war from preliminary training to action in the jungles, the desert and the Far North, comprised this first comprehensive exhibition in Great Britain of war paintings by American Artists.
